We did not know how much we would love buying anime characters and Akihabara became our go to place to shop for them. A 3min walk from Akihabara subway station is a place where you can shop till you drop on anything anime.

Densetsu No Sutadon’ya
We were craving Sutadon and,, spotted this spot right across from one of our favorite ramen places. We decided to give it a try and were thoroughly impressed! The portions were huge, and the taste was fantastic. We ordered a Fried Chicken Curry Don and a Pork Don. Both bowls were absolutely packed with meat, and the curry? It was, in our opinion, one of the best we’ve ever tasted, with a rich, creamy, and savory touch.
Steak Lodge Yodobashi Akiba
We were craving steak and decided to try the Steak House located inside Yodobashi Akiba. We arrived early in the morning and noticed many people already lining up to head up to the 8th floor. Once inside, after ordering our meals, they thoughtfully provided us with cute bibs—a clever touch to protect from any splashing oils on the hot skillet! We ordered 100g and 200g protein portions, plus extra rice. We absolutely loved our meals and enjoyed all the side sauces.
Good Tip: Cook the meat quickly on the skillet, as it can easily become overcooked!
The French Toast Factory Yodobashi AKIBA 8F
After our meal, we craved something sweet, and with all the tempting photos, how could we say no to French toast, especially when it promised to be fluffy and bouncy? It was our first time having soufflé-style pancakes, and they were absolutely delicious and super filling. We ordered the 3-piece French Toast Pancake with fruit and cream. We left feeling incredibly full and happy with our dessert.
Yanaka Coffee Chabara Shop
Located within the Chabara Shop, Yanaka Coffee provided a wonderfully cozy and authentic coffee experience amidst the bustling Akihabara streets. We ordered a coffee frappuccino to share, and we absolutely loved how strong the coffee tasted, leaving us craving more. In fact, we returned multiple times throughout our trip to get our mornings started here!
Excelsior Cafe
We visited Excelsior Cafe, conveniently located right outside the Akihabara JR Subway station, deciding to stop by before our day truly began. We needed a quick drink and a moment to plan our next moves. There were many seats available, making it a great place to sit and take a refreshing break.
KFC
We had to try KFC in Japan, so we popped into the Akihabara location. We opted for a combo that included chicken thighs, legs, strips, and two chocolate pies. We were genuinely surprised by the chicken’s taste; it was flakier, crispier, and felt much fresher than what we’ve had in Canada—way better, in fact! The chocolate pie was equally delicious, with a flaky crust and a generous, rich chocolate filling that wasn’t overly sweet.
Syabu-Yō atre Akihabara 2
Located in atré Akihabara 2 (note: the elevator is outside the main mall entrance and goes directly up to the restaurant), the Shabu Shabu Buffet in Akihabara was absolutely fantastic and incredibly filling! We opted for the basic menu, which didn’t include unlimited drink refills, as we were primarily focused on the food and dessert. It proved to be a fantastic choice for an all-you-can-eat hot pot experience—a fun and interactive way to enjoy fresh ingredients cooked right at our table.
Hokkaido Ice Cream
Right outside Akihabara Station, we discovered a cute ice cream shop offering incredibly rich and creamy soft-serve. Unfortunately, we arrived almost at closing time and missed out on the matcha flavor we were hoping for. However, we tried the Hokkaido milk flavor, which was also super delicious! You can find the store here.
Coffee Communication
Coffee Communication was conveniently located near our hotel, and we were desperate for something cold on a super hot and muggy day. We saw a photo of an appealing Coffee Milkshake and decided to give it a try. Our first impression upon walking in was being surprised by the number of smokers inside, which initially threw us off. Despite that, we ordered our drink and left, noting that many inside were chatting and enjoying their coffee. The Coffee Milkshake was very delicious though and wished they had a bigger size.
Tasty Quick Value
We were super surprised by how affordable Tasty Quick Value was! They truly lived up to their name by offering delicious and budget-friendly meal options, with some costing as little as 580 Yen. It was a well-balanced meal that perfectly hit the spot and left us feeling completely full.
Tsukiji Gindaco Takoyaki
We couldn’t resist trying Tsukiji Gindaco Takoyaki, a popular spot for this iconic Japanese street food right beside Yodobashi Akihabara. They had the best takoyaki (octopus balls) we’d ever tasted because it was perfectly made, wonderfully crispy, and not too sweet—Julian absolutely loved them!
Sushiro Conveyor Belt Sushi
Sushiro Conveyor Belt Sushi provided a fun and efficient dining experience with a wide variety of fresh sushi options rotating right past your table. It’s a great way to try many different types of sushi at a reasonable price.
Conclusion:
Akihabara was truly amazing and unforgettable! We ended up buying over ten One Piece characters to bring home and display in our drawers. Every place on this list was genuinely fantastic and delicious.
