Welcome Sign to Drumheller
After a long drive, seeing the Welcome Sign to Drumheller was exciting—we knew we were officially entering the iconic, giant dinosaur marks the entrance to a truly unique landscape. Was interesting also to see the heart of the Canadian Badlands Sign.
Costco
Yes, we even visited Costco in Alberta! It’s always interesting to see if other locations have different products or deals than back home in Vancouver, BC. We enjoyed a familiar stroll through the aisles and additionally they had Costco Liquor which provides a large selection of hard liquor, wines, and beer.
CrossIron Mills Mall
We made a quick stop at CrossIron Mills Mall. It was a convenient place to stretch our legs and browse around for a bit. There were many familiar stores and surprisely looked like Tsawwassen Mills in Delta. We then googled and found out that it was indeed created by the same developer Ivanhoé Cambridge. With the same mill-style concept of design.
Tyrell Museum
Tyrell Museum was an absolute highlight! The massive, incredibly preserved skeletons and interactive exhibits made learning about prehistoric life utterly captivating. We were surprised how big the museum was and spent a couple hours here. The only thing we did not like was the parking as it took way too long to find parking.
Little Church
We stumbled upon the Little Church, and it was exactly that: tiny but incredibly charming! It’s a quaint, unique roadside stop that perfectly captures the quiet beauty of the area.
Wonderland Sculpture
The Wonderland Sculpture in Calgary was a fun, eye-catching piece of art. Its unique design offered a playful visual in the city’s landscape.
Downtown Calgary – Calgary Tower
From Downtown Calgary, the Calgary Tower stands tall. We decided to not go this time as we had other plans in Downtown Calgary, but we were able to see it for afar which was still nice.
Stephen Avenue Walk
We enjoyed a stroll along Stephen Avenue Walk, a lively pedestrian zone in downtown Calgary. It was great to see so many shops, restaurants, and historical buildings, making it a great place to soak in the city’s energy.
Peace Bridge
The Peace Bridge is a true architectural marvel in Calgary. Its unique, vibrant red design stands out against the river, making it a popular spot for photos and a pleasant walk.
Canmore Engine Bridge
The Canmore Engine Bridge offers a touch of rustic history in a beautiful mountain setting. It’s a charming spot, perfect for a peaceful walk with scenic views.
Conclusion:
Our trip to Calgary was short, but what an incredibly fun and eye-opening experience it was! The city landscapes, genuinely surprised us. It sparked a thought that lingered long after we left: could Calgary be a place we’d consider calling home down the road? This quick getaway certainly left a lasting impression, showcasing Calgary’s unexpected summer charm.
