1. Dotonbori District
We visited Dotonbori District on a weekday and it was still quite busy. We had lots to see and eat like the famous Strawberry Mochi, Ichiran Ramen, and 100 Yen Cheese Bread. At night, the Dotonbori District comes alive with their amazing iconic billboards that light the night up. Strolling down the Dotonbori Canal, where you can see the iconic Glico Running Man sign welcoming visitors, capturing the essence of Osaka’s tourist attraction and nightlife. It is a great place for some who enjoy walking, shopping, and eating!
2. Den Den Town
Den Den Town was on our list as we love watching anime like One Piece and Demon Slayer. We didn’t realize that this place was an easy walking distance from Shinseki Market. With many interesting stores, you can find on the way. We weren’t expecting to go on a spree while we were here and bought almost a whole collection of One-Piece Action Figures. Each store has different price points and is a great adventure to look for the best deals for those anime/manga collectors.
3. Universal Studios Osaka
From Shinsekai Market to Universal Studio by transit was roughly 35mins away. Our favourite was Super Nintendo Ride: Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge and the Jurassic Park ride. To have an immersive experience at Super Nintendo World, a band must be purchased that was 4200 Yen back in December 2023. We found it wasn’t worth the cost and decided not to get one as it was $42 (CAD) for each band. The Jurassic Ride was a ride we were not expecting to be that scary and thrilling until we got on the ride. It made us have a split moment of regret as our backs weren’t touching the seats.
We had a blast at the Jurassic Ride for our most amazing rollercoaster experience. Throughout the day, there were scheduled live shows and themed parades for a great break and an amazing end to our night.
4. Umeda District
On the surface, it appeared like any other city, but there was something more. We had gone during Christmas and there were great festivities including ice skating, Christmas decor, and small pop-up shops.
There is so much to see in the Umeda District from towering skyscrapers like the Umeda Sky Building to underground areas, boutiques, restaurants, and entertainment facilities. Whether you’re in the mood for high-end fashion, technology (Yodobashi Akiba), gourmet cuisine, or live performances, Umeda District has it all.
5. Shinsekai Market
Our hotel was close to Shinsekai and I can say it really felt like a night market vibe. 2 restaurants that got as addicted were a small sushi restaurant and a small Takoyaki shop located directly in Shinsekai. At night, the market lights up and it is memorable to see the iconic Tsutenkaku Tower, a symbol of Osaka’s vibrant spirit.
6. MEGA Don Quijote

Mega Don Quijote has many locations throughout Japan and has a vast array of stores, boutiques, and entertainment facilities. From fashion-forward boutiques and luxury brands to electronics stores and specialty shops, Mega Don has something for every shopper’s taste and budget. It is an endless shopping opportunity and is a must-visit for anyone craving a retail therapy session.
7. Nara Park
A 50-minute transit ride from Shinsekai Market, Nara Park is home to hundreds of freely roaming sika deer. When we arrived, we had purchased deer crackers from local vendors and fed the most adorable deer. Most of the deer were bowing every time we fed the crackers. Some of the male deer were a bit more aggressive and Colin got headbutted in the butt because he didn’t feed fast enough. A local came up to give us some nuts to feed the deer instead which was so sweet. Whether you’re a nature lover, or seeking tranquillity, Nara Deer Park promises a serene and memorable escape.
8. Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan
The first walk toward Osaka Aquarium was beautiful as they had great well-crafted displays. Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, is one of the largest and most impressive aquariums in the world displaying a variety of marine habitats, from otters, jellyfish, and sharks. The Aquarium had many stamp stations to stamp along the way. We had accidentally misplaced our umbrella and we went to the lost and found area and were able to retrieve it back which was a blessing. The staff’s customer service was an amazing help.
9. Tennoji MIO
A 15-minute transit from Shinsekai Market, Tennoji MIO is great for discovering a world of shopping, dining, and entertainment. The modern architecture, vibrant atmosphere, and convenient location near Tennoji Station make it a perfect destination for leisurely shopping and dining.
This is also the place where Colin switched to black coffee, ditching the cream and sugar! Click here to see Places to eat and drink in Osaka.
10. Abeno Q’s Mall
Just a two-minute walk away from Tennoji station, one of the biggest shopping malls in the city is located nearby to Tennoji MIO. Abeno Q Mall has an amazing architecture that makes you appreciate the structure and design.
For those who are collecting stamps, here is one for you! One of the biggest highlights for Colin was the Mugiwara Store. For those who don’t know, it’s a One Piece store with limited locations. This particular store had a stamp machine, so you can add it to your collection!
Conclusion
Whether you’re exploring Osaka’s iconic districts, immersing yourself in its rich cultural heritage, or indulging in its world-class shopping and dining, Osaka never fails to captivate and inspire. So, pack your bags, prepare your taste buds, and embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Japan’s most dynamic city! Osaka awaits, ready to enchant and delight at every turn.
