Philosafy Coffee
Philosafy Coffee was our first stop, to kick off our day. The front entrance has a beautiful, inviting design. We ordered an Iced Matcha Latte and a Nitro Cold Brew; Colin especially loved the Nitro Cold Brew and wished for more! Inside, the space was super aesthetic, with their cold drinks nicely displayed, adding to the great vibe.
Peter’s Drive-In: A Classic Canadian Treat
You simply can’t go to Calgary without visiting Peter’s Drive-In! Our friend brought us here specifically for their amazingly thick milkshakes. We got to pick 2-3 flavors to blend, and we went with classic strawberry, banana, pineapple, and mango – it was delicious and so refreshing! We were too full from dinner to try them, but their burgers looked absolutely massive.
Alforno Bakery & Cafe
After our nice stroll from the Peace bridge, We enjoyed the charming bakery at Alforno Bakery & Cafe. We had ordered an Iced Strawberry Matcha and an Iced Black Coffee.
Charcut Roast House
We celebrated our anniversary at Charcut Roast House in downtown, and what a meal it was! We ordered an impressive spread: a 12oz Alberta Beef Strip Steak, a 12oz Lightly Smoked Alberta Prime Rib with Crispy Poplar Bluff Potatoes, Bucatini Carbonara, and Charcut Cheesecake.
To our surprise and delight, the owner gave us a complimentary drink for our anniversary! She was incredibly sweet and made sure we enjoyed every moment. The steaks were amazingly tender, and the carbonara was surprisingly nice and light, not heavy at all. Unfortunately, the cheesecake was a miss for us; it was a deconstructed version that just didn’t quite hit the mark.
Taste of Calgary
We weren’t sure what to do in Calgary and what luck that Taste of Calgary festival was happening! The experience was interesting where we had to buy food/drink tickets near the entrance.
We went to 7 places, Mina Brazilian Steakhouse (Minas Taste – 3 slices bbq beef & chicken leg), Arepa Boss (mango drink), Fresh Prep (Mac n Cheese),Pampa Brazilian Steakhouse (Brisket Cheese Bread Sandwich), Tmore Coffee-Fruity Tea (Iced White Phin Coffee with Cream),Hankki Canada (Mini Dog Cheese) and,
Mixers and Shakers Bar Ltd (Bee-Sting Mock-a-rita)
Our experience at Minas Brazilian Steakhouse “Minas Taste” was unfortunately too dry for our liking, but we did like the cilantro topping.
On a hot day, the mango drink from Arepa Boss was absolutely perfect! It was incredibly refreshing and not too sweet – just right.
We tried the Mac & Cheese from Fresh Prep, and it was just okay. We found it a bit dry and wished it was creamier.
At Pampa Brazilian Steakhouse, Colin really enjoyed their Brisket Cheese Bread Sandwich. It was a definite hit!
We ordered the Iced White Phin Coffee with Cream from Tmore Coffee. This traditional Vietnamese coffee is consistently delicious and hard to go wrong with.
The Mini Dog Cheese from Hankki Canada was exactly what a cheese craver needs! It was perfectly melty and hit the spot.
The owner at Mixers and Shakers Bar Ltd recommended the Bee-Sting Mock-a-rita, and we’re so glad they did! We thoroughly enjoyed the spicy kick it delivered.
Eclipse Coffee Roasters
Eclipse Coffee Roasters in Canmore was the perfect pick-me-up before our long journey back. We got a black coffee and an iced oat coffee latte. It was just what we needed to feel refreshed and ready for the road! Inside the shop had many seats and merchandise to buy which was nice to see.
Beavertails
We have Beavertail in Vancouver, but we never gotten around to trying it. We decided to try it out in Canmore. OMG, the flat, deep-fried dough and nutella was delicious. The bad part, it kept making us want more after we finished it the whole thing in less than 5mins.
Conclusion
Calgary left us speechless. We loved exploring the city’s summer beauty and its fantastic food and drink scene, from Philosafy Coffee to Peter’s Drive-In and Charcut Roast House. It left us truly wondering if Calgary could be our future home.
